YYYYEEEEEEEEEHHHAAAAAAWWWW!!
24/04/08 14:48
Howdy Everyone!
That little title is what I'm guessing many of you will be feelin' in your hearts when we get together for our next EPIC gathering. Exams will be done!!
Now, since some of you may still have some exams to finish before you get to make that wonderful exclamation in your hearts on Tuesday, let me share some exciting, pre-Tuesday news with you that will "hold you over" until then (and this might actually keep you stoked for the whole Summer... - I know I'm psyched!!):
Things are coming together for our student group!!! The "EPIC Community" is taking shape!!!
It's my joy to announce that David Breakey and Chad Carbert have agreed to let their names stand for the roles of "Team Leader" and "Treasurer," respectively!! It will remain up to the EPIC membership to ratify them in these roles, as well as (hopefully) a number of other leaders on our "EPIC Lead Team"!
In order for us to take the next steps in officially forming our student group, we need to establish a membership of at least 10 people, and formalize a number of leadership roles. Just to remind you, our membership-base needs to be 2/3 undergraduate students at the U of A, and our leadership team needs to be 3/4 full or part-time students.
We now also have a first draft of the new EPIC Vision and Constitution. If you are interested in EPIC membership and/or leadership, please e-mail me (matt@pentecostalcampusministries.com) and I will send you a copy. Then give it a read, and let me know if you are interested in membership. (I would also welcome your comments and suggestions on the constitution - so e-mail me feedback!!). Keep in mind that this constitution still needs to be officially accepted by the EPIC Lead Team (once it is in place) - so it is not necessarily the final copy, but it will at least give you a sense for the general direction and requirements of the group.
Now... in regards to our next EPIC GATHERING...
Our next EPIC Gathering is Tuesday, April 29th, at 7:00 p.m. We will be once again be meeting in the very, very sweet and 'cultured' Heritage Lounge, which is in the Athabasca Hall building. (There is link for a map to the building on the right).
Here's what's on tap for our next gathering (I'm excited already!!):
Tuesday April 15th: "Canadian Bacon: Christians and Culture"
Welcome & Simple-Socially-Enhancing-Refreshments
Thematic Cultural Connection: Mystery Music Video
Intro to the Theme and Conversation: "Canadian Bacon: Christians and Culture"
U of A Community Highlight...

Break for more 'Simple-Socially-Enhancing-Refreshments'
News & Announcements:
Had a Birthday, Graduation, Engagement, or Something else exciting happen? Let us know!!
EPIC Membership & Leadership
EPIC Summer!!! **(see below)
"Your Chapter": Personal Testimonies from the Week
Engaging Sermonette on "Canadian Bacon: Christians and Culture"
Community Conversation (everyone gets to 'talk back'!) - This week's questions:
1) What would it take to have a rock concert in a cathedral? (i.e. Can today's culture be mixed with traditional Christianity?)
2) How are followers of Christ - like you, or someone you know - engaged in Canadian culture, and/or how can they be?
Musical Worship & Response Time
Benediction and more 'Simple-Socially-Enhancing-Refreshments'
**EPIC SUMMER Survey
At our last gathering we talked about continuing our EPIC gatherings in the Spring / Summer, but with a bit of a different format. We are likely going to continue to meet every 2nd week, but we will alternate between an informal hang-out, God-talk, and prayer-time one week, and a pure social gathering on other weeks.
So what kinds of things would you like to do on a warm Spring/Summer Tuesday night? House parties and BBQs? Go to the park and throw frisbees around and have a bonfire? Check out some of Edmonton's many Summer Festivals together? Just go for a walk down Whyte or in the River Valley together? Pull out your retro 70's velvet suit and go disco bowling?
You tell me!! E-mail me your ideas!!
I'm excited about seeing you all on Tuesday ALREADY. Have a super weekend.
God bless,
Matty

Mid-April EPIC Gathering
10/04/08 16:36
Hello EPIC Community!!
We're almost at the end of the semester! "Happy last, or second-last, day of classes!"
Spring seems as though it might actually have decided to come, AND stay (did I hear "20 degrees on Sunday"?!?!), exams are just around the corner, and everyone's probably dreaming-up Summer plans... - so I'm sure many of you have got lots on your mind.
Our new U of A church community has also turned a corner in finding a new name! As you probably gathered from the greeting and subject line of this e-mail, as of last church gathering we have decided to call ourselves "EPIC". We desire to be a Christ-centered community of people who journey with others in understanding and playing our roles in the epic story of God, humanity, and the universe.
Our next EPIC Gathering is this Tuesday, April 15th, at 7:00 p.m. We will be meeting in a new location (but a really sweet one) in the Heritage Lounge, which is in the Athabasca Hall building. (see side panel for map link)
Here's what's on tap for our next gathering (I'm excited already!!):
Tuesday April 15th: "Saving Hitler?"
Welcome & Simple-Socially-Enhancing-Refreshments
Thematic Cultural Connection: Movie Clip - Der Untergang (special prize for whoever can translate the title!)
Intro to the Theme and Conversation: "Saving Hitler?"
U of A Community Highlight...
Who will talk about their special passion, interests, and community involvement this week? Come find out!!

News & Announcements:
Had a Birthday, Graduation, Engagement, or Something else exciting happen? Let us know!!
Special: Want to be an official "EPIC member"? We are in the process of forming our student group and need a minimum of 10 official
members to get started. If you are interested in being part of the EPIC leadership team, or having "voting rights" in decisions that are made, you
will also need to be a member. But you don't have to be a member to continue coming to our weekly gatherings and being involved in the
community in other ways. If you are interested, let me (Matthew) know, and I will get you a copy of our group constitution and more details as
soon as possible! We need to have this done by the end of April!!
"Your Chapter": Personal Testimonies from the Week

Community Conversation (everyone gets to 'talk back'!) - This week's questions:
1) Who is the last person, or where is the last place in our culture that you would expect to find the grace of God?
2) How can you be involved in bringing God's grace to that person or that place?

Can't wait to be together again...
