So what better way to get 'ramped up' for all of the exciting new things happening this Fall than to have one more excellent EPIC Summer Bash?! That's why we're having our last House Party for the Summer at Chad Carbert's acreage near Leduc, on Thursday August 21st at 6:30 p.m.

Chad says he's got more than enough room in his backyard for any activities we want to do (so bring your frisbees, footballs, bocce ball, etc.), there's a swimming pool for those who feel like taking a dip, we may sit around a fire a little later in the evening, and there's always Wii, Foosball, and other games.

...For now, Michelle and I are just trying to adjust to the life of 'little-to-no-sleep' - but we've got lots of great stories about cute little smiles, poopy diapers, and yes - getting peed on while changing him (he already has quite the trajectory!).

...Come out for some Rockband, Foosball, Boardgames, Cardgames, Wii, PS3, Outdoor fun... - or just whatever creative ideas we come up with (accompanied by lots of chatting, laughing, and 'bonding' :-).

In order to fill our stomachs a little, we're asking that everyone brings their favorite beverage or snack food along (let's say people with last names starting with A-F bring beverages, and G-Z bring snacks).

...In order for us to take the next steps in officially forming our student group, we need to establish a membership of at least 10 people, and formalize a number of leadership roles. Just to remind you, our membership-base needs to be 2/3 undergraduate students at the U of A, and our leadership team needs to be 3/4 full or part-time students.

...Keep in mind that this constitution still needs to be officially accepted by the EPIC Lead Team (once it is in place) - so it is not necessarily the final copy, but it will at least give you a sense for the general direction and requirements of the group.

...“Scripture is… the book through which the Spirit assures us that we are his people and through which he sends us out into the world to tell the Jesus story, that is, the Israel story which has become the Jesus story which together is God’s story for the [whole] world. ... In other words, as we let the Bible be the Bible, God works through us-and it-to do what he intends to do in and for the church and the world.”

...When we focus on Scripture as a textbook, Christianity sometimes tries to use the Bible to prove that it is right about things that it is not the primary source of answers for (e.g. the Bible is not primarily a book on science!).

...We would have a weekly church community gathering, which would serve the purpose of bringing our diverse worship expressions together, as well as engaging in corporate forms of worship and discipleship (like music, liturgy, and preaching).

Perhaps this weekly gathering should be on a weeknight, since students and staff are already at the university during the week, and may be more reluctant to come back to campus on the weekend for a gathering.

...- Guided, open conversations with the entire gathering on the theme of the message/topic each week (i.e. after the 'sermonette' we ask some questions and give people an opportunity to talk back to us and respond to what they've just heard).

...Although we would not be a 'family church' per se, we would encourage students to find a family church when they leave the campus, or perhaps even start one with the students who graduate and start families but who still want to stay close to the university community and be in ministry here.

Imagine a group of students who represent a diverse array of passion and involvement in student interest groups, faculties, and clubs on campus, and who also unite in a common love and experience of relationship with a living, personal God.

Imagine a regular gathering of this community of people that represented the Christian passion, the global awareness, and the diverse local university involvement that are organically inherent within it. Imagine 'rock concerts in cathedrals,' 'prayer services in pubs,' 'Christian fellowship on ski hills,' or 'worship expressions in environmentalism.'

...What could a gathering of the Church on campus look like?!
